Man United Legend Tony Dunnes is Dead

Manchester United’s European Cup-winning legend, Tony Dunne has died at the age of 78.

The Red Devils in a tweet via its Twitter account on Monday confirmed the news of his demise, though the cause of his death is yet to be revealed.

The tweet reads “One of our greatest-ever full-backs an integral part of the 1968 European Cup-winning side, Tony Dunne is dead.

“He was a player who made 535 appearances in the red shirt of Manchester United.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to the loved ones of Tony Dunne.

“May he rest in peace.”

Also, his former team-mate Alex Stepney in a tribute to him described him as an unbelievable full-back and incredible player.

“It’s very sad news, Tony was a great team-mate, an unbelievable full-back, and an incredible player.

“When I came to the club in September 1966 Tony was a left-back.

”He was later switched to right-back after the club had another left-back, Bobby Noble.

“The club also won the First Division Championship in 1967 with Tony at right back.

“That kind of versatility was very rare in those days but Tony was brilliant.

“He just did his job with the minimum fuss.

“He was switched back to left-back for the season we won the European Cup in 1968 and he was outstanding, a real unsung hero.

“Like me, he played over 500 games at United, but he wasn’t what you’d call a robust full-back, he was a thinking man’s defender,” he said.

The Irishman, who joined United as an 18-year-old in 1960, played 535 first-team matches for the club, putting him eighth on their all-time appearance list.

He was also part of the United side who beat Benfica 4-1 at Wembley in 1968.

Dunne earned 33 caps for his country, four as captain, and was named Irish Footballer of the Year in 1969.Manchester United

Appeal court to order release of Buhari, Osibanjo, Obasanjo, Atiku and others asset declaration

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has urged the Court of Appeal to order the release of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s assets declaration.

SERAP also urged the Appeal court to order the release of assets declaration of governors, their deputies, and other politicians since 1999.

The body made the call in an appeal asking the Appeal Court to vacate a judgment by Federal High Court refusing to order the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to publish the assets declaration forms of those listed.

The tweet reads: “BREAKING: We’ve asked the Court of Appeal to vacate and annul the judgment of a Federal High Court which refused to order @CCBNigeria to publish details of asset declarations of President Buhari, Vice-President Osinbajo, Governors, their Deputies and other politicians since 1999.

“The appeal filed last week, read: Democracy cannot flourish if governments operate in secrecy. The judge didn’t consider the African Charter and didn’t consider that the FoI Act was enacted by @nassnigeria in 2011 to grant public access to public documents by public officers.”

Justice Muslim Hassan had in May ruled that “Making asset declarations available is dependent upon terms and conditions to be proscribed by NASS, which must be specific and related to asset declaration of public officers and not legislation of general nature such as the FoI Act.”

Nigerian Doctors to begin Nationwide strike June 15 amid Covid19

The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria will commence a nationwide strike on Monday, June 15, 2020.

Dr Aliyu Sokomba, National President of NARD, said this in an official letter with reference number NARD/SG/2019-2020/070620/246.

Sokomba said the association found it necessary to take “the painful decision” following the inability of the government to meet its demands.

He said, “Consequent upon the 14 days ultimatum duly served the Federal Government for indefinite strike action, in accordance with the resolution of the Ordinary General Meeting of the Association on the 29th of May 2020, we hereby notify you that all resident doctors, medical officers below the rank of Principal Medical Officer (PMO) and House Officers across all the Federal and State hospitals in Nigeria, shall be embarking on a total and indefinite strike action effective 12:01am on Monday, 15th June 2020.

“It is important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of the patients as the strike shall be total and indefinite. No service of any kind, be it emergency, care at COVID-19 isolation and treatment centres shall be exempted. We sympathize with the patients and Nigerian populace.

“For purpose of clarity, the demands on which the ultimatum was predicated include the following; Provision of grossly inadequate appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for all healthcare workers, Immediate reversal of the illegal disengagement of all 26 resident doctors in Jos University Teaching Hospital, and the payment of all salaries owed them, in keeping with provisions of the Medical Residency Training Act.

“Universal Implementation of the Medical Residency Training Act in all federal and state hospitals and ensuring pay parity among doctors of equal cadre.

“Immediate implementation of the revised hazard allowance and payment of the COVID-19 inducement allowance as agreed with by the Federal Government and healthcare workers three months ago.

“Provision of funding for Medical Residency Training in the 2021 Appropriation bill. Payment of all arrears owed our members in federal and states tertiary health institutions, arising from the consequential adjustment of the National minimum wage.

“Stoppage and immediate refund of all illegal, unjust and callous cut in salaries of our members by Kaduna State and other state governments.”

Atiku will run for 2023 Presidency – Son

Adamu Atiku-Abubakar, the son of former Vice President  Atiku Abubakar, has said his father will contest the presidency again in 2023.

Adamu said this over the weekend while presenting the scorecard of his ministry as the Commissioner for Works and Energy in Adamawa State.

He said, “Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with my father contesting for the presidency. In 2023, my father will be aspiring to the number one office in the land because he has been an astute, strategic,  master politician for almost four decades.”

Speaking on the achievement of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration, he said they had surpassed the expectations of many in the state who were surprised that given the tight liquidity constraints, Fintiri could still meet most of its campaign promises to the electorate.

He said his coming late into politics was as a result of the advice from his father urging him to spend more time in the private sector to gain enough experience, which would be crucial for him in public life.

“I am basically here to serve my people; if I am called by the people back home to run for the Senate,  I don’t see anything wrong with that,” Adamu Abubakar said.

In a related development, the Presidency says the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is plotting to stir a global apathy against Nigeria by falsely claiming that Christians are being persecuted.

The  Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who made this comment on Sunday, added that IPOB had secured the services of lobbyists and funded non-government organisations (NGO) to drive concocted claims against the Federal Government.

The Presidential spokesman said the aim is to diplomatically blackmail foreign countries, including the United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK), into rupturing relations with Nigeria.

Shehu said the elaborately planned scheme, which had already started gaining steam with some officials of the American government, including the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, had been receiving monthly funding of $85,000 since last October 2019.

The Presidency said IPOB’s the Christian persecution claim should not be taken seriously, adding that Nnamdi Kanu is only interested in  Biafra and that the  ‘Jewish’ claim by the leadership of the IPOB, is not a position shared by the generality of the members.

Davido welcomes fourth child with makeup artiste in London

Popular Nigerian Musician, David Adeleke, aka, Davido has reportedly welcomed his fourth child with a London-based make-up artist.

According to a news blog, GistMerchant on Instagram, the lady named Larissa Yasmin Lorenco has been in Davido’s life since 2017

The report alleged that Larissa welcomed the singer’s 4th child, a son in March of 2020, and went off social media when the rumour initially began but has now returned.

Davido is reported to have denied the baby and has blocked her in order to save his relationship with his fiancee, Chioma.

The report by GistMerchant reads, “There have been rumours floating around for a while now of Davido having another child. I’m here to confirm the gist and give details.

“Meet the newest baby mama Larissa Yasmin Lorenco A.K.A Larissa London. A make-up artist born and raised in Angola but moved to UK and have been in David’s life since 2017 (swipe to see her in the background of his picture back in 2017).

“He sure knows how to shuffle these women at the same time. She went off social media when the rumour initially started and have only just returned to posting again. She posted the above picture to make it seem like she is still pregnant so as to confuse the timeline meanwhile she already delivered a baby boy back in March and this is an old picture. This is her second child as she already has a daughter.

“The hookup that resulted in this pregnancy happened in NewYork Mid last year (Summer ‘19) when David was back and forth in US first for his second daughter’s birthday, then a brief Euro tour, back in US for Memorial weekend show, next in Nigeria for his first daughter’s hair product launch and then back in US in June for another show in Philadelphia and branched afterward in NY to give Larissa belle before moving on to ATL for the rest of his trip. Larissa was also with him at the Afrofest Portugal that happened back in August of 2019.

“Davido is currently denying the baby and blocked her so she has no access to him. He is trying to save face with the Chef Chi. For a while now things haven’t been rosy between them and they have been living apart but with this news now, trust them to come together and do photoshoot, pressing breast and sharing tongue to convince us that Chivido is still going to happen. My guess? Chivido is dead in the water. Fingers crossed.”
